Everlasting Elders Art Workshop – August 2024

On Thursday 15th August, we had the pleasure of hosting Elders and Students of Guildford Grammar School at the City of Bayswater for an Everlasting Elders Art Workshop. Renowned Aboriginal print screen artist, Brett Nannup, inspired everyone with his work and artistic journey to start the day.

The Elders and students then paired up to discuss what makes them ‘Blak, loud and Proud’, the 2024 NAIDOC theme, and then interpreted that into art.

The resulting artworks were exceptional and most carried a theme of a ‘connection to country’, with depictions to landscapes from across WA and animals. Many of the students had never painted before and commented how the art made them feel connected to their Culture as well as their Elders.

The workshop was funded through NAIDOC 2024 grant funding from National Indigenous Australians Agency and a community grant funding from City of Bayswater, who also generously provided us with the space to host the events.

Our Everlasting Elder events provide valuable opportunity for the Elders and the younger Aboriginal community to come together and rekindle kinships between each other, making strong culture, strong community and strong people.

It makes us so proud to see the generations coming together and genuinely enjoying each other company during the day.

Also, huge a thank you to our industry partners Gallagher Australia, and their staff members Jacqui Moxham and Emily Brook and Jillian Rosich who assisted us on the day.  Gallagher’s support of the Spear Foundation means we can scale these Everlasting Elders event in 2025 so we can connect event more Elders and youth to maintain strong cultural foundations for the entire community.
